      He was employed as a Bread Baker at the time of the 1881 census.

10. Jesse Sugden (John) was born in 1822 in Thornton. He died after 1861.

Jesse was baptized on 27 Aug 1822 in Kipping Independent Chapel, Thornton.

Jesse married Sophia Broadhead, daughter of William Broadhead and Hannah Shackleton, on 7 Apr 1851 in Bradford Parish Church. Sophia was born in 1826 in Thornton. She died after 1861 in Thornton.

Sophia was baptized on 6 May 1826 in The Bell Chapel, Thornton.

      Lived in Hilltop during the time of the 1881 census and lived at 3 Mary Street,
      Thornton during the time of the 1891 census. Was employed as a worsted Spinner/Weaver.

      21 F viii. Tamar Sugden was born in 1871 in Thornton and died on 22 Mar 1947 in Bingley.
      Lived in Hilltop during the time of the 1881 census and lived at 3 Mary Street,
      Thornton during the time of the 1891 census. Was employed as a Minder in 1891.
      At the time of her death she lived at 8 Edward Street, Bingley.

Third Generation

15. William Sugden (Jesse, John) was born in 1855 in Thornton. He died about 1932.

William and Emma lived at 17 Hill Top Road, Thornton

William married Emma Sharp, daughter of William Sharp and Sarah, in Sep 1882 in Dewsbury. Emma was born in 1861 in Mirfield. She died about 1931. Worked as a Wool Weaver in 1881

William and Emma had the following children:

      + 22 F i. Sophia Sugden was born in 1883.

      23 M ii. Wilbur Sugden.

      + 24 M iii. Ineson Sugden was born in 1885 and died on 2 Feb 1943.

      + 25 F iv. Lily Sugden was born on 6 May 1887 and died on 29 Feb 1948.

      26 F v. Zilpha Sugden was born in 1890 in Hipperholme.

      27 M vi. Ralph Sugden was born in 1896 in North Bierley, Bradford. He died in 1917 in Ypres, Belgium and was buried in 1917 in Ypres, Belgium.

      28 M vii. Garnett Sugden was born in 1898 in North Bierley, Bradford.
      He died on 3 Jun 1970 in Bradford. Garnett married Kate. Kate was born in 1901.
      She died on 27 Sep 1993 in Bradford.

      29 M viii. Arthur Sugden was born on 1 Jul 1901 in North Bierley, Bradford.
      Arthur married Millie.

17. Edwin Sugden (Jesse, John) was born in 1859 in Thornton.

Lived at 12 Hilltop Road at the time of the 1891 census and was employed as a blacksmith.

Edwin married Emma . Emma was born in 1865.

24. Ineson Sugden (William, Jesse, John) was born in 1885 in Mirfield. He died on 2 Feb 1943 in Sun Inn, Thornton and was buried on 6 Feb 1943 in Thornton Municipal Cemetery.

Ineson married Cerina Reed about 1906. Cerina was born about 1885. She died on 31 May 1965 in Bierley Hall Hospital.

They had the following children:

      35 F i. Lily Sugden was born in 1908. She died in 1911.

      + 36 M ii. Donald Sugden was born on 28 Apr 1913 and died on 27 Jun 1963.

25. Lily Sugden (William, Jesse, John) was born on 6 May 1887 in Slead Syke, Hipperholme. She died in 1949. She was employed as a Worsted Weaver in Hill Top Thornton.

Lily married Luther Pickles, son of Newell Pickles and Mary Alice Waddington, on 6 Jul 1909 in Bradford, England. Luther was born in 1888 in Hill Top, Thornton. He died in 1917 in Ypres, Belgium and was buried in 1917 in Ypres, Belgium.

He worked as a Butcher in Hill Top Thornton. He visited the USA following his marriage but returned in 1912 for the birth of his son Lloyd. It is believed that he then owned a Fish Shop in Hill Top. He was killed in the First World War and the following is from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
"In Memory of Private LUTHER PICKLES 10th Bn., Duke of Wellington's (West Riding Regt.) who died on Thursday, 7th June 1917. Remembered with Honour YPRES (MENIN GATE) MEMORIAL, Ieper, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium"

Luther and Lily had the following children:

      + 37 F i. Cora Pickles was born in 1915 and died on 3 Jan 1999.

      + 38 M ii. Lloyd Pickles was born on 16 May 1912 and died in 1996.

Fifth Generation

36. Donald Sugden (Ineson, William, Jesse, John) was born on 28 Apr 1913 in Queensbury. He died on 27 Jun 1963 in Buttershaw and was buried on 7 Apr 1963 in Zion Baptist, Bramley, Leeds.

Donald married Phyllis Majorie Athorn on 21 Sep 1940 in St Peters Church, Bramley, Leeds. Phyllis was born on 12 Oct 1916 in Leeds.

They had the following children:

      + 39 F i. Jennifer Margaret Sugden was born on 20 Aug 1946.

      + 40 F ii. Gillian Lesley Sugden was born on 23 Mar 1949.

37. Cora Pickles (Lily Sugden, William, Jesse, John) was born in 1915. She died on 3 Jan 1999.

Cora married Fred Sharp.

They had the following children:

38. Lloyd Pickles (Lily Sugden, William, Jesse, John) was born on 16 May 1912.
He died in 1996 in Bradford, England.

He worked for much of his life as a monumental mason. He served in the Kings Own Hussars during the Second World War.

Lloyd married Alice Kathleen Pollard, daughter of Claud Mainhood Pollard and Fanny Blackburn, on 9 Apr 1937 in St Peters Church, Shipley. Alice was born on 7 Sep 1908 in Queens Road, Halifax. She died on 29 Aug 1994 in Bradford.

They had the following children:

      + 45 F i. Anne Patricia Pickles was born on 22 Jul 1938.

      + 46 M ii. John Stuart Pickles was born on 31 Mar 1947.

Sixth Generation

46. John Stuart Pickles (Lloyd Pickles, Lily Sugden, William, Jesse, John) was born on 31 Mar 1947 in Bradford, England and was christened on 4 May 1947 in St Lukes Church, Eccleshill, Bradford.

He started his working life as a woolcomber in Bradford. He emigrated to New Zealand in 1974 where he carried on his work as a woolcomber. He then worked as a Training Consultant for the NZ Public Service. He returned to the UK in 1990 and worked as a self employed Training Consultant and Graphics Designer until the present time. He returned to Bradford from New Zealand in 1991 where he continued to work in Computer Training and Graphics Design.

John married Frances Gough, daughter of Charles Edward Gough and Lilian Maud Tudor, on 15 Jun 1968 in Bradford, England. Frances was born on 21 Nov 1949 in Bradford, England and was christened on 18 Dec 1949 in St Peters, Leeds Road, Bradford.

She started her career as a trainee Nurse at St Lukes Hospital. She emigrated to New Zealand in 1974 where she lived in Feilding, Hastings, and Wellington. She returned to the UK in 1990. She then worked as a restaurant manager.

John and Frances had the following children:

      53 M i. Stuart Dylan Pickles was born on 13 Dec 1968 in Bradford, England.

      Stuart married Sarah Foster on 16 Apr 1999 in Bradford, England. Sarah was born on 18 Nov 1969.

      54 F ii. Ann-Marie Pickles was born on 31 Dec 1970 in Bradford, England.

      She emigrated to New Zealand with her parents in 1974. She was educated in New Zealand in Halcombe, Feilding, Hastings and Wellington. She worked for the New Zealand Public Service. She remained in New Zealand when her parents returned to the UK in 1990. She is a member of the
      Newlands Volunteer Fire Service.
